Faith and Life
May 26 – No Forum (Memorial Day Weekend)
June 2 – Suggestions for Summer Reading and Future Forums
You may remember in years past that Pastor Evans used to wrap up the Forum season with his recommendations and suggestions for summer reading. We’re going to try to revive that tradition, but with a variation. The forum coordinators (Robin, Doug, and Harold) will bring their suggestions, but we’re also inviting you all to show up and do the same. So, we’ll be able to share descriptions of our favorite recent books that bear some relationship to our faith and mission as Christians. Suggestions can be loosely related to relevant themes and topics in religion, church life, and spirituality, but we’d like to keep them fairly current, say within the last two to three years or so. And if you haven’t read anything good lately, don’t worry. Come anyway and pick up on some good ideas.
In addition, would like to use perhaps half of the time this morning to discuss suggestions and future directions for the Faith and Life Forum, going forward. Attendance has generally been dropping this year, so we’d like to solicit your ideas for improvement as well.
Social Concerns Ministry
With love for our members, and for all our neighbors in northern Virginia and beyond, we seek to live God’s love through programs of service. To see the Social Concerns Ministry Directory, click here to check all of the ways Redeemer helps to support our members and the community.
At Redeemer there is a program that needs your talents and energy and that will recognize and reward your service. Along with the programs listed here, Redeemer is heavily involved in many other outreach activities.
Redeemer Lutheran Church Executive Summary/Strategic Plan
A Strategic Planning Task Force, appointed by the Church Council Chair, worked for several months to review the current status of Redeemer Lutheran Church, to identify both positive trends and concerns, and to recommend strategic directions for the future. The Task Force report was submitted to the Church Council last March, and is currently under review and in partial implementation by the Council.
Many good things are present at Redeemer, including: high quality worship services, with outstanding music; a solid core of members; a beautiful and highly functional physical facility; renewed energy in the Sunday School and Youth Ministry programs; continued strength in Confirmation, Pre-School and After School ministries; a small but effective cadre of dedicated volunteers pursuing our ministries; and many beneficial social concerns ministries such as Partner for Surgery and Stop Hunger Now. The arrival of Pastor Sandy Kessinger has added major strength to worship and programming at Redeemer, and has brought a caring and supportive sense of shared community to the congregation. (more…)
